CREATIVE CAPITAL: So it begins

(A radical new approach to thriving in the creative arts)

Welcome to the future.

You've come at an exciting time.

You're about to witness the birth of a new movement.

A movement based on the philosophical axiom that the pinnacle of human action is human creation.

CREATIVITY

CAPITAL

Two ideals that have are shouted from opposite sides of the Conceptual Colosseum.

You're about to witness the birth of a movement based on the philosophical axiom that two warring factions are more powerful and more benevolent when they are unified.

CREATIVES

CAPITALISTS

Two groups of people that have been pitted against one another in the Cultural Colosseum.

You're about to witness the birth of a movement based on the philosophical axiom that the creative spirit of humankind is the driving force of all progress: cultural and scientific, artistic and economic.

CREATIVE ARTS

CAPITALISM

Two paradigms that have undermined and clashed with one another in the Economic Colosseum.

The Conceptual Colosseum: the amphitheater of ideas and goals inside your mind.

The Cultural Colosseum: the amphitheater of taboos and protocols inside your community.

The Economic Colosseum: the amphitheater of behaviors and tradeoffs inside your society.

Three Colosseums. One battle: the fight for energy.

Mental energy. Attention. Emotional investment. Personal commitment.

Cultural energy. Engagement. Community investment. Political commitment.

Economic energy. Transaction. Monetary investment. Resource commitment.

What gets the energy, and what withers? Capital, or Creativity?

Who survives, and who dies? The Capitalist, or the Creative?

CREATIVE CAPITAL is the idea that the true battle is not between these forces. The war is an ideological false flag conspired to undermine unity within our civilization, cast upon us by dead philosophers with mistaken ideas that won't die with them.

The Arts has become corrupted, poisoned, self-immolating. Our Modern Muses are committing suicide in front of us. And we - the public - scroll infinitely, entranced and intoxicated with thumb-sized spectacles on our screens. The creative vines that have fed our culture are slowly dying. To survive, they worry, must they become a commercial husk of themselves, selling out by trading in cheap dopamine on the Internet? Between Scylla and Charybdis our Modern Muses sail a treacherous voyage. It seems that no one is coming to save them - unless they save themselves. Learnt helplessness. Despair. Anger. Scream. Sadness. Whisper. Silence…

Must that be the fate and fortune of our cultural pioneers?

CREATIVE CAPITAL is the idea that our Modern Muses can have a future brighter than any creatives in history. If they choose.

Literature. Dance. Theater. Storytelling. Music. Film…

CREATIVE CAPITAL is the idea that these human forms are worthy of the great rivers of economic energy flowing through our civilization's economy.

Wealth. Technology. Production. Machines. Property…

CREATIVE CAPITAL is the idea that these human forms are worthy of the great rivers of creative energy flowing through our civilization's culture.

CREATIVE CAPITAL is the end of capitalism as we know it.

CREATIVE CAPITAL is the end of the arts as we know them.

CREATIVE CAPITAL is the start of something new.

It is about more than merely surviving as a starving artist, trapped by the ghost of a pre-digital past. It is about prospering as an entrepreneurial artist on the forefront of the new digital renaissance. It is the union of entrepreneurial creativity and artistic creativity.

CREATIVE CAPITAL is a radical new approach to thriving as a 21st century creative.

My forthcoming book, CREATIVE CAPITAL, is about how creative businesses can generate, leverage and monetise intellectual capital as they operate their business and produce their creative work.
